Emmett Shear Named Successor to Sam Altman as OpenAI’s CEO

In a series of rapid negotiations over the weekend, Microsoft made a pivotal move by appointing Sam Altman shortly after his unexpected dismissal as CEO by the OpenAI board. Simultaneously, OpenAI brought Emmett Shear, the former chief executive of Twitch, on board to serve as their interim CEO.

Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft, revealed in a post on Sunday night that Altman would be spearheading a newly formed artificial intelligence research team at Microsoft. Notably, this team will also include Greg Brockman, the former president of OpenAI who resigned following Altman’s dismissal on November 17th.

According to reports from the New York Times, Microsoft’s investments in San Francisco-based OpenAI have exceeded a staggering billion. Notably, among the other notable investors in OpenAI are Sequoia Capital and Thrive Capital.
