‘Abbott Elementary’ Season 3 Unveils Exciting Twists
The comeback of Abbott Elementary seems a bit… peculiar. In contrast to the first two seasons that launched at the start of the back-to-school season, Season 3 is debuting in the midst of winter. With a supersized episode, the half-hour comedy series takes on an entirely new vibe. To add to the shock, one of Abbott Elementary’s cherished teachers has bid farewell.
It’s a real blow, almost unbelievable! I never imagined this day would arrive. Nevertheless, we must press on, down one teacher and already halfway through the school year.
Created by Brunson, the mockumentary-style sitcom centers around teachers at Abbott Elementary, a fictional Philadelphia public school. The hit series won four Emmys over the last two seasons, including Brunson’s win for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series during the 75th annual Emmy Awards in January.
“I think this season is where you should expect the unexpected,” says West Philadelphia native, creator and star Quinta Brunson. “I realized talking to Janelle (James) that she never knew what was coming in the scripts,” Brunson says, referring to her costar who plays Ava Coleman. “That was great because that’s kind of what we wanted to do. We wanted to pack a punch in the writers’ room. If the cast didn’t see it coming, that’s a very good sign for the audience.”
