UFC 293 took place Saturday at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney.
In one of the biggest upsets in UFC history, Sean Strickland defeated Israel Adesanya to capture the middleweight championship in Sydney on Saturday.
Few fans or observers thought Strickland had a chance to unseat Adesanya, one of the best strikers in mixed martial arts, but the challenger exhibited constant forward motion, strong defense, and clinical performance at UFC 293. Thus, the contentious American defeated Adesanya 49-46 on all three scorecards, after saying in 2021 that he would like to “kill” an opponent in the ring.
in Round 1, Strickland, 32, dropped the Nigerian-New Zealander, sending Adesanya spinning to the canvas before going for the finish. Adesanya, 34, managed to survive until the final buzzer, indicating that Strickland just couldn’t hit the finishing blow.
Despite a heated build-up to the main event, Strickland always looked to be one step ahead of Adesanya, who congratulated his weeping victor when the outcome was determined.
